About the Course
This course focuses on the nursing care of clients with mental health problems. Classroom learning provides an introduction to developmental, psychological, and biological theories in order to enhance understanding regarding the various etiologies of mental illness. Major psychiatric illnesses that are seen throughout the lifespan as well as treatment options available are addressed. In the clinical setting, students apply classroom knowledge utilizing the nursing process through assessment, identification of nursing diagnoses, as well as implementation of a plan of care to promote optimal functioning of the client with mental illness.
